The aircraft, a BAC One-Eleven, struck a mango tree on the hill in suburban Kula-ike, Antipolo City, east of its destination while on a VOR approach to runway 24.〔(Aircraft Safety Network Aircraft Accident Database, accessed February 3, 2009 )〕 Of the 42 passengers and five crewmembers on board, only one passenger and one Flight Steward survived, both of whom were hospitalized with burns. Mateo Ranillo was the pilot, father of actor Mat Ranillo III. LT.Col. Felix del Roario was co-pilot, hails from Taytay Rizal, a town just below the hills west of Antipolo. The aircraft crashed due to turbulent high winds, and heavy rainstorm, with poor visibility at night.
